Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is a comprehensive health and allied sciences higher learning public institution. The aim of the University is to impart knowledge and produce transferable skills through teaching and learning, research, consultancy and application of knowledge, skills and aptitudes to meet professional needs of society at national, regional and global levels. The University specifically trains health professionals such as nurses, midwives, medical doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nutritionists and biomedical scientists/lab technologists at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
KUHeS was established in 2019 under the act of parliament by merging Kamuzu College of Nursing (est. 1965) and College of Medicine (est. 1991). The Malawi Ministry of Education gazetted May 4th 2021 to be the commencement date for Acts of Parliament Nos 18, 19 and 20 of 2019, that established the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). From their proud history spanning more than 30 years, the two colleges became one and are recognized as a preeminent and distinctive public health sciences University in Malawi with special commitments to academic rigor and to assuring in all of its efforts professional growth of each student.

As a University, we are committed to providing top-quality education, including Undergraduate, Post Basic, Post graduate and Doctoral programs in areas of critical importance to a rapidly changing world community. The programmes we offer provide students with a broad understanding of the scope and nature of contemporary health issues along with relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional behaviour in primary health care as well as leadership and management in health care systems. Our three vibrant residential campuses (Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mangochi), remarkable facilities and the diversity of our co-curricular activities and support services all exist primarily to serve these educational purposes.
We train and expect our graduates to be competent, committed to service, ethical and safe practitioners able to meet the health needs of the people both in their communities and world at large. Our teaching and research is focused on the principles of quality and safety in health care and as such, courses are evidence-based underpinned by best practice guidelines and promote a person-centered approach.
