Food and Accommodation

Our cafeterias are conveniently situated, surrounded by the hostels, library, classrooms and offices. Delicious meals are served at a reasonable price. Apart from the cafeterias, the Sports Complex at Mahatma Gandhi campus has a restaurant and snack bar that serve delicious meals and snacks at affordable prices. Students are also free to get food outside the campuses from local restaurants or super markets in the surrounding area


The University offers different types of accommodation ranging from standard/shared rooms to Family suites at a fee. The shared rooms include; study table and chair, a bed, wardrobe, toilet and bath-tub. The family suites have kitchen with already installed appliances, bedrooms, toilet and shower and study area. These are mostly offered to postgraduate students. The distance from the residence to the classrooms is approximately 100m.

Students are therefore required to apply for accommodation as soon as admission results are out and have been admitted. An application form for accommodation can be downloaded here and a completed form sent to electronically to or to The Registrar, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Private Bag 360, Chichiri Blantyre 3, Malawi, (Attention Assistant Registrar Academic).

Please note that accommodation charges are not covered in tuition fees and are required to be paid on a monthly basis, with at least three-months in advance. Rooms are allocated according to availability and seniority. The room charges are as follows

  • Single bed and ensuite bathroom  $200/month
  • Two beds  sharing ensuite bathroom at $200/month
  • Standard rooms with two beds and communal bathrooms at $70/ month

The University has a list of recommended private accommodation which students that have not been offered accommodation on campus can apply to. Kindly note that the University does not have any agreement with the property owners of these private accommodations. students apply directly to them
