Community and Environmental Health

The mission of the Department of Public Health is to make a positive difference in the health and well-being of Malawians and the global village. We are a strong multidisciplinary department and are dedicated to improving human health through quality educational programs, research reflective of changes in public and population health, outreach services through partnerships with individuals, organizations and communities, and the dissemination and translation of knowledge locally and globally. Department of Public Health started in 1991 as the Department of Community Health, at the time, teaching, mentoring and supervising medical students. Since its inception, the department is responsible for teaching, research and mentorship of students in all departments and in all academic programmes at the University. The department hosts the largest enrolment of postgraduate students in the University and nationally.
