Course Description

Why (study) the programme

This two year BSc in Nursing and Midwifery Education programme aims to produce a competent and multi-skilled graduate who will be able to deliver both theoretical and clinical academic programmes in nursing and midwifery in health training institutions while contributing to the provision of quality, equitable and accessible healthcare services to individuals, families, groups and communities.

This is a two-year programme, spread over four (4) semesters 

Career prospects

There are several opportunities for nursing studies graduates when they earn a nursing and midwifery education degree. Some of them work as, tutors in health training institutions while others work with government agencies as community educators, coordinators and researchers. Some choose to be in the hospital as regular nurses or work with various certification bodies like Nurses’ Council of Malawi. You can also explore educational opportunities in health education with various International Organization implementing health related projects

With this program graduates have an opportunity to undertake further study for masters in nursing and midwifery education, higher education, research, management, curriculum design and development, policy development inter alia

Entry Requirements

The entry point into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery Education is level 2 (year three) and the following are the entry requirements: 

University Diploma in Nursing and/or Midwifery.

Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with six (6) credits including credits in English, Biology, Physical Science and Mathematics; and 

Certificate of registration with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.

Not less than two years of clinical nursing or midwifery practice.

  • References from two traceable professional and one academic referee attesting to the applicant’s academic and professional ability and potential
  • Personal goal statement that is congruent with programme goals.

Duly completed application forms together with proof of payment of a non-refundable application fee of K12, 000.00 for Malawian candidates and U$25 for international applicants should be sent to the same address. Applicants should attach a deposit slip as proof of payment of an appropriate application fee.
