Course Description

The aim of the MBBS programme at the College of Medicine is to prepare and equip the doctors in training with necessary knowledge and skills to enable the graduating doctors to practice medicine successfully in Malawi and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) sub-region. 

Programme structure

The MBBS is a five year programme. The current curriculum has been designed to have a strong science foundation but allowing students to meet with the patient very early on in the training. In third year there is a definite transition from a heavy science to clinical training while maintaining the scientific basis of training.

Entry Requirements

Generic entry:

Six credits at MSCE or its equivalent including English plus a minimum of 3 points in Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry or General Science. Candidates will join in foundation year (year zero). A-level candidates must have at least 3 passes with a minimum grade of C in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. Candidates will join in first year.

Mature entry:

 A recognized Diploma in Clinical Medicine with at least two years relevant work experience and 6 MSCE/O-Level credits including English Language, Biology and Physical Science. Or

A Degree or Diploma in any field plus 6 MSCE or O-Level credits including Biology and Chemistry/Physical Science a third science subject like Physics or Mathematics. Interested candidates should have a grade of not more than “3 points” or “C” in Biology, Chemistry/Physical Science.
