Biography

Dr Peter Chimimba is a Dental Surgeon specialized in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and currently serves as the Coordinator of the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) Dental School Project. He also leads the MALDENT Project, a collaborative initiative between KUHeS and the University of Glasgow Dental School funded by the Scottish Government.

He has a strong interest in capacity building for oral health care in Malawi and has played a key role in the establishment of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme, the first dental training programme in the country, aimed at producing globally competent and locally relevant dental professionals.

Dr Chimimba has extensive experience in health services management, having served at the Ministry of Health Headquarters where he rose to the position of Chief of Health Service. He also brings broad clinical experience in oral health care delivery, having worked both nationally and internationally, including in the United Kingdom within the NHS and private practice.

He has contributed to global oral health through his role as a member of a World Health Organization (WHO) expert committee on oral health and continues to support national policy and research initiatives in Malawi.
