Bachelor of Science in Community Health Nursing (Direct and Mature Entry)

Course Description

The BSc in Community Health Nursing Direct entry program is a 4-year program spread over 8 semesters while The BSc in Community Health Nursing mature entry is a two-year program that is spread through four semesters. The program targets qualified Nurses and Midwives who hold a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery. All community health programs are based on the concept of Primary Health Care (PHC) which includes: community members and stakeholder involvement, community participation and empowerment, inter-professional collaboration, appropriate technology, health promotion and prevention of diseases, continuity of care across the continuum of care, and serving disadvantaged, remote and vulnerable populations

Entry Requirements

Generic entry:

Malawi School Certificate of Examination (MSCE) or its equivalent with 6 credits including English Physical Science/General Science, Mathematics and Biology.

Mature entry:

University diploma in:

        (i) Nursing  

        (ii) Psychiatry nursing

        (iii) Community health nursing

(To join the programme in third year)

OR

College Diploma in Nursing from other recognized institutions with MSCE 6 credits or its equivalent including English Physical Science/General Science, Mathematics and Biology. This group will join year one during which they will be exempted from nursing modules.

How to Apply

Generic entry:

Students have a choice to apply either through hard copies or online and application is done through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). 

• For hard copy applications,

Application forms can be collected from NCHE offices in Lilongwe, all District Commissioners, and District Education Managers offices in all districts across Malawi. The forms can also be accessed on NCHE website as well as the KUHeS website. The form should be filled and submitted to National.

Or download the application form from the National Council for Higher Education website https://pus.nche.ac.mw fill it out and send the completed form to National Council for Higher Education, Post Office Box B43, Lilongwe, before the deadline indicated in the advertisement.

• For online applications,

 apply online through the National Council for Higher Education website by following this link https://pus.nche.ac.mw. The following documents in electronic format are required for every online application:

a. Identity card;

b. Passport-sized photo;

c. Certificate or result notification slip; d. Proof of payment of application fee.

Mature entry:

Application forms can be obtained on written request or in person from the address given below and can also be downloaded from http://www.kuhes.ac.mw. Duly completed application forms together with proof of payment of a non-refundable application fee of K12, 000.00 for Malawian candidates and U$25 for international applicants should be sent to the same address. Applicants should attach a deposit slip as proof of payment of an appropriate application fee.
