Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) believes in promoting internationalization within the University through exchange of ideas and experiences. One of the University’s policies is that a certain percentage of newly recruited students should be international students. Dating back in history, the University has a record of international graduates from various countries across the globe such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland, Egypt and India. These graduates are currently utilizing their attained knowledge and skills all over the world.  

The University is listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDoMS) and recognized globally by international institutions including the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), United States of America and The World Health Organisation (WHO). Therefore, graduates are illegible for practice and further training around the world.

How to Apply

Undergraduate (generic) Applicants

All applications for generic undergraduate programmes go through the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) and there are two ways of how applicants can submit their applications:

  1. Online Application : Apply online through thr NCHE website by following this link https://pus.nche.ac.mw. The following documents in electronic format are required for every online application:
    • Identity Card
    • Passport-sized photo;
    • Certificate or result notification slip
    • Proof of payment of Application fee
  2. Physical Application: Download the application form from NCHE website https://pus.nche.ac.mw, fill out and send the completed form to National Council of Higher Education, P.O Box B43, Lilongwe,before the deadline indicated in the call for application advertisement.

Undergraduate (Mature Entry) Applicants

Mature Entry applicants apply through physical application. The application form can be downloaded from here and sent to The Registrar, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Private Bag 360, Chichiri, Blantyre 3, Malawi, (Attention: Admissions Office), before the deadline indicated in the call for application advertisement.

Postgraduate Applicants

Postgraduate applicants apply through Physical application. The application form can be downloaded from here and sent to The Registrar, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, Private Bag 360, Chichiri, Blantyre 3, Malawi, (Attention: Admissions Office),. Or scanned copies of all the application documents can be sent to admissions@kuhes.ac.mw before the deadline indicated in the call for application advertisement. Submission should include Postgraduate application Form, Academic and Professional References, authenticated copies of certificates and transcript including translation where necessary, Curriculum Vitae (CV), Passport-size photo, Proof of funding and non-refundable application fee of $30.00.

Visa requirement

International students who require a visa to enter the country should apply for an entry visa at the Malawian Embassy/ High Commission in their country of residence immediately when a place has been offered. The entry visa allows one to legally stay in the country for 30 days during which time they will apply for a study permit as explained below.

Study Permit

A study permit is offered to all foreign nationals who intend to study on full time basis at a Malawian educational institution. The process of application is done while applicant is already in Malawi. The requirements for application of a study permit are as follows:

  • Complete a three-page application form in duplicate;
  • Two recent passport-sized photos;
  • Authenticated photocopy of current passport showing photograph and personal details;
  • Authenticated photocopy of current visa (where applicable);
  • Letter of admission from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences;
  • Payment of a processing fee of $100.00 at the Immigration Department;
  • Medical report from the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Clinic at a fee of $10, or any recognized health institute within Malawi;
  • Police clearance from Student’s country;
  • Proof of funding to cover tuition fees, maintenance and incidental costs/Certification of Scholarship;
  • Covering letter from the KUHeS Registry to the Immigration Department;

Students are encouraged to carry their passports with them throughout the immigration process and to keep safe the receipts of the processing fee of $100 for future use.
